Clemson University Fire Safety Officer I - Paramedic


The Fire Safety Officer I - Paramedic (NFPA Firefighter II) protects life and property by providing Fire & Emergency Services response in support of the department mission. May serve as a resource leader or incident commander until relieved. Performs other duties as assigned.There are two positions available. 


50% - Essential - Emergency Response: Perform Fire and Emergency Services response operations duties as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Fire Safety Educator and Hazardous Material & Rescue Technician; Develop and maintain cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills proficiency through application, professional development, knowledge of department Standard Operating Guidelines & applicable regulations, training and physical fitness. Assist with training and supervision of subordinates

35% - Essential - Administrative: Assist with Delivery of Department Training and Fire safety prevention initiatives, Maintains compliance with required OSHA Programs: Fire Brigade Clearance, Respiratory Protection, Exposure Control Program, Maintains EMS certification and medical control sponsorship as required. Conducts Occupancy Pre-incident Planning Program

15% - Essential - Supervisory:  Implements working knowledge of NIMS-ICS as a resource leader or team member; May serve as Initial Incident Commander until relieved as required. Supervises subordinate medical personnel


Education -  High School or Equivalent

Licenses - Drivers License Class E normal >26,000

Certfications - NFPA Firefighter I

Work Exp 1+ years of Fire and/or EMS field experience

SC Class "E" driver license, NIMS-ICS 200, NFPA Firefighter I, current NREMT & SC EMT certification, OSHA Hazardous Materials Operations, Confined Space Rescue Operations, ability to maintain continuous medical control sponsorship by department MCO  



Education - Associate's Degree - Fire Science, Emergency Services, or other related directly related field

Experience - 1+ years of full time paid firefighter experience and/or 1+ year of full time paid Advanced EMT or Paramedic experience. Volunteer experience may be substituted if greater than 3 years of directly related service time

Licenses & Certifications - Current NREMT & SC Paramedic Certification, NFPA Firefighter II, OSHA Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician
